Johnson's Queenie Girl

Queenie came to us in May of 2004 through American Brittany Rescue.  When we were contacted about her Jill and I had a long talk becaues she was a sister to Reba.  At that time we were concerned that we would compare her to Reba as they were related and Reba was such a great dog.  We agreed to take her, work with her and give her a home for the reamiander of her life.  While she was not abused she was not trained, afraid to be in the house and had never been exposed to birds, guns or hunting.  This is an ongoing process that will take time to develop.

The first time she got away from me (at Bong Recreation Area) it took two (2) of us and a pickup truck over 2 hours to tire her out and get her back under control.  The second time we made progress and it only took a little over an hour to get her back.  She ran from one end of the grounds to the other several times dragging a 50' check cord but never came close enough for us to capture her.  We have made great progress and now I run her off lead with the rest of the dogs for about an hour twice a week with little worry that she will run off or get lost.

Queenie has really learned to like running in the snow.  She enjoys going to Bong with all the dogs, at times as many as 11 or 12, and running free for a few hours.
As much as she enjoys running she also likes to lay around and watch TV.  She is still very jumpy in the house and if anyone gets up or moves around too much she will get up and move away as if getting out of reach,.
In this picture she is pointing a Bobwhite Quail.  This was one of her first points, and she is on a check cord which can be seen near her tail.  She has since gone on to bigger and better things including taking 4th place in a 'Hunting Dog Stake' at a Greater Milwaukee Brittany Club Fun Trial.
This was a great moment in her life, even if she didn't realize it.  She is on point over a Pheasant.  This was March 08, 2005 at Pheasants On The Ledge, a hunt club in WI.  The thing about this picture that thrills me is that this is less than a year after we brought her into our home.

We never expected Queenie (aka Cutie) to come around as much as she has.  When she came to us she was scared, had not been to a Vet  in 3 years, and was not socialized.  She bit me the first night, and Jill 2 days later.  She has come a long way from that dog to what she is today.  This year she will be entering Hunt Tests and should earn a Junior Hunter Title. Keep checking back on her progress as well as Tango, Troy and Chewie.
