~ EPISODE #003 ~
"Thanksgiving"

For this episode, Sapient thought it would be cool to solicit recorded Thanksgiving greetings from members of the Atheist Network Message Board.  We agreed.  The folks who submitted those greetings understood our premise as well.  It's not what you're thankful for, it's who you're thankful to.  An atheist cannot be thankful to an invisible sky pixie she doesn't believe in, but she can be thankful to another human being, and that's exactly what we got.  Lots and lots of messages from people who were either thankful to real people, or satirically thankful to beings that cannot exist.

It was a complete blast calling all these people and recording their greetings.  While we were at it, we also recorded a number of Atheist Network show ID's, some of which made their way to the AN radio stream and the beginning of every Beware Of God! show that followed.  We got IDs for a wide range of shows from several different message boards.  Thanks to everyone who participated in this effort:

The Musikal Interlewdz for this episode were A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving by George Winston, and a techno version of The Pink Panther Theme.  I searched the web for hours today, and nobody seems to know who created this.  Both these pieces were mixed with the Thanksgiving greetings of our friends from the various message boards.

In addition to Thanksgiving, we also highlighted a Donahue episode regarding a judge who sneaked a two-ton monument to the ten commandments into the rotunda of his courtroom in the dead of night.  Jerry Falwell and Sandy Rios made appearances on this show alongside Barry Linn and Michael Newdow.  With such a cast of characters, you know the sparks were flying.

We also introduced a theme we hope will be a recurring one:  The BOG! 1 Traffic 'Copter, a humorous way to highlight some of the stupidity that occurs on the various message boards around the 'net.  Sapient joined us for this "Troll Report," but we see no reason anyone else couldn't pilot the thing...

This is one of my favorite episodes, second only to our current episode, BOG! #009.  The outpouring of support we received, the professional quality of abraXas' edits, the humor and the intriguing content make this a must-listen.  Download this one when you get a chance.
